When you visit one of the nearby villages of Itarema or Acaraú, you should definitely try to see Brazils famous “fight dance” - Capoeira!
Dressed in white and going for training mostly at night when it’s not so hot to practise, the Capoeira dancers, ranging from 5 to 50 years old, perform in the village’s market squares.
Check with locals for the night and time, it's really special and a must see when you visit North east Brazil. Watch out if you stand close, they might invite you to join them and give it a try!
If you are interested in taking lessons, talk to one of the Capoeira dancers and they will for sure come up with some possibilities. Informal and open as Brazilians are, they appreciate having contact with foreigners. |
